WHAT IS RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS?

Rhythmic gymnastics is one of the most beautiful Olympic sports that combines flexibility and the dynamics of gymnastics, ballet, and modern dance.  It is elegant, expressive, precise, and graceful.  The movements are choreographed to music and accompanied by the use of colorful ribbons, balls, hoops, ropes, and clubs.

IS IT A DANCE? IS IT AN ART? IS IT A SPORT?

It is a unique combination of all three.  Self-expression, grace, and beauty are the important elements of rhythmic gymnastics.  The gymnasts require a full range of flexibility and explosive power which allow them to maintain perfect body alignment in leaps, balances, pirouettes, and other intricate body movements.

Some important benefits from this sport include:

  • Good concentration and self-discipline

  • Increased self-confidence

  • Sense of teamwork, responsibility and good sportsmanship

  • Physical fitness, strength and agility

  • Manual dexterity and eye-foot/eye-hand coordination

  • Sense of rhythm and balance

The discipline, skills and physical fitness one develops in rhythmic gymnastics are ingrained in the athlete even long after they have retired from the sport.

WHO SHOULD TAKE RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS?

Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport for everyone!  Every child we have worked with through the years has enjoyed and benefitted from it.  Children are drawn to the music and to the use of the apparatus.  This sport allows the child to have fun, use their imagination and creativity, while developing physical, mental, and social health.
